The Rotary Club of Wausau Youth Scholarship Program accepts applications from high school seniors from Wausau East, Wausau West, D.C. Everest, Newman Catholic, and Northland Lutheran High Schools.
Up to five scholarships in the amount of $1,000 are awarded annually. Awards are based on two qualification criteria, namely, 1) demonstrated involvement in community service, and 2) leadership. This criterion is the foundation of Rotary International as captured in the Rotary motto: “Service Above Self.”
Scholarship awards may be used by the recipient at any accredited, post-secondary educational entity. Scholarship award funds will be paid by the Community Foundation directly to the school the recipient is attending.
The Rotary Club of Wausau Scholarship Fund is administered within the Community Foundation of North Central Wisconsin. Students are asked to complete the online application in a clear and thoughtful manner according to the instructions provided through the Community Foundation’s scholarship application website (see hypertext link below).
The completed application includes the follow key contents:
- COMMUNITY SERVICE AND LEADERSHIP ROLES FORM - The student will be asked to complete and submit this form which will include a list of the student’s leadership roles in high school (e.g. clubs, groups, etc.) as well as in other community organizations; and, their roles and volunteer involvement in community service, including in school and in the community. The list should note beginning and ending dates of the student’s involvement.
- NARRATIVE INFORMATION -
Student will be asked to describe how their leadership roles in school and in the community, along with their community service involvement in both settings, has prepared them for their future career or vocation.
- REFERENCE LETTER -
A letter of reference must be provided from a community member, outside of your school (also not from a parent) familiar with your leadership skills and contributions to the greater Wausau area through your community service and leadership roles.
